  • Nominations for members of the Second International Indian Ocean Expedition (IIOE-2) Science Theme Teams and Working Groups

Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR), the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO, and the Global Ocean Observing System for Indian Ocean (IOGOOS) are seeking nominations for members of the Working Groups and Science Theme teams that will implement the work of the 2nd International Indian Ocean Expedition (IIOE-2).

docNomination form should be send to the Australian Node of the IIOE-2 Joint Project Office (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.; or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) by 15 September 2016.

The project co-sponsors have received nominations of chairs for each Science Theme and Working Group and are in the process of selecting the chairs. The members of each group will be selected by the IIOE-2 Steering Committee Co-Chairs, in consultation with the Chairs of the Science Themes and Working Groups, based on the nominations received and with a view to balance the groups by expertise, geography, and gender.

For questions about the process please contact Ed Urban, SCOR Executive Director (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

Below you can find the list of the Science Themes described in detail in the pdfIIOE-2 Science Plan:

    • Theme 1: Human impacts
    • Theme 2: Boundary current dynamics, upwelling variability and ecosystem impacts
    • Theme 3: Monsoon variability and ecosystem response
    • Theme 4: Circulation, climate variability and change
    • Theme 5: Extreme events and their impacts on ecosystems and human populations
    • Theme 6: Unique geological, physical, biogeochemical, and ecological features of the Indian Ocean

Also, below is the list of the Working groups the details of which are described in the pdfIIOE-2 Implementation Strategy:

    • Working Group 1: Science and Research
    • Working Group 2: Data and Information Management
    • Working Group 3: Capacity Development
    • Working Group 4: Operational Coordination
    • Working Group 5: Outreach and Communication
    • Working Group 6: Translating Science for Society
    • Working Group 7: Resources and Sponsorship
