  • The Ocean is Losing its Breath – summary for policy makers published

We are happy to share a recently published Summary for Policy Makers on "Declining Oxygen in the World's Ocean and Coastal Waters" developed by the Global Ocean Oxygen Network (GO2NE).

pdfThe Ocean is Losing its Breath

After publishing a highly impactful review article on Declining oxygen in the global ocean and coastal waters in Science in January 2018, the GO2NE group released a technical report aimed at general public, managers and policy makers.

On 40 pages of this comprehensive document, the scientists explain the current state of our knowledge on causes of and consequences and potential solutions to ocean deoxygenation. All that in a very accessible language with several figures and photographs helping to understand this worrying phenomenon.

IOCCP plays an active role within GO2NE and we hope that this document will be a useful tool for many of you when trying to convey the ocean deoxygenation massage beyond your academic circles.

The IOCCP promotes the development of a global network of ocean carbon observations for research through technical coordination and communication services, international agreements on standards and methods, and advocacy and links to the global observing systems. The IOCCP is co-sponsored by the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO. Read more…
