  • IAPSO Best Practice Study Group - Calibrating Measurements of Total Dissolved Inorganic Carbon in Seawater

We would like to share with you that IAPSO has selected three Best Practice Study Groups, one of which focuses on ‘Calibrating Measurements of Total Dissolved Inorganic Carbon in Seawater’. The main objectives of this Best Practice Study Group are to address the calibration strategies for commonly used instrumentation to measure total dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) in seawater, write clear and detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs), assess the reliability and consistency among calibration methods, and suggest technological and commercial solutions to facilitate their implementation.

If you routinely perform DIC measurements and are concerned about calibrating your DIC instrumentation, we invite your input and participation. To contribute to this initiative, please begin by completing a short 10-minute questionnaire by June 30th: Access Survey. The information collected will be anonymised and aggregated to evaluate the community’s calibration needs for seawater DIC measurements.

Your participation is crucial in helping us understand the current landscape of DIC measurement practices, identifying areas for improvement, and shaping a future with a wider implementation of high-quality DIC measurements in seawater.

The IOCCP promotes the development of a global network of ocean carbon observations for research through technical coordination and communication services, international agreements on standards and methods, and advocacy and links to the global observing systems. The IOCCP is co-sponsored by the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO. Read more…
