IOCCP works with champions in selected regions to leverage each region’s capacities, establish mechanisms for sustained engagement and amplify underrepresented voices for the benefit of the global community. In particular we aim at:

  • reducing barriers to collaborating across nations, institutions, or research groups;
  • helping to develop collaborative funding proposals to expand regional capacity to collect and share ocean biogeochemical data;
  • facilitating further development and promoting the use of common best practices;
  • serving as conduit for information sharing between the region and the international groups coordinating ocean biogeochemical observations.

Communities in each region face different challenges and have different needs, therefore we rely heavily on our Panel Experts to effectively implement elements of our mission fostering inclusive, cross-disciplinary collaboration. Currently our efforts are focused on two regional communities: North African community working in the Mediterranean Sea region and more widely described Latin American community (started in October 2025).
