We are pleased to share that the BioGeoSea project invites you to join the Online Workshop on Reference Material Current Use in Ocean Science (use, problems and the path forward) scheduled for 2 June 2026, at 10:30–12:00 CEST. Are you working with EOVs? Do you make use of reference samples in your observations? Then join our Online Workshop!
Ocean Variables are key variables critical for understanding the state and health of the ocean. International bodies such as the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) oversee frameworks for identifying EOVs and defining specification sheets, which outline the supporting measurable variables in each category and how they’re used to characterise relevant ocean processes.
In this workshop, we will explore how reference materials are currently used across ocean science disciplines, focusing on EOVs such as: Inorganic Carbon, Nitrous Oxide, Inorganic Nutrients, Transient Tracers, Oxygen.
Key topics to be discussed:
- How reference materials are collected, maintained, and applied
- Current challenges and limitations
- Community needs and best practices across different EOVs
- Recommendations for the next decade, contributing to updates of the EOV specification sheets
This is your opportunity to share experiences, challenges, and ideas that will help shape the future of EOV observations.
