Community input to the white paper outlining priorities for future research on the ocean's biological pump

    Tuesday, 05 July 2016

A white paper entitled pdf‘Towards a transformative understanding of the ocean’s biological pump: Priorities for future research’ is now available for community feedback. The paper identifies those critical gaps in our understanding whose study will lead to significant advances in the field. All who have interest in any aspect of ocean carbon export are encouraged to provide feedback on the white paper to the This email address is being protected from spambots. Draft plan for a global, Biogeochemical-Argo array

    Monday, 04 July 2016

We would like to let you know that a draft document pdf‘The Rationale, Design and Implementation Plan for Biogeochemical-Argo’ is now available for community consultation. Biogeochemical-Argo is the extension of the Argo array of profiling floats to include floats that are equipped with biogeochemical sensors for pH, oxygen, nitrate, chlorophyll, suspended particles, and downwelling irradiance. The draft plan stems from the discussions held at a workshop on 11-13 January 2016, at the Laboratoire d’Oceanographie de Villefranche, France.

Comments on the draft plan can be addressed to Ken Johnson (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and Herve Claustre (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) through August 15.

10th International Carbon Dioxide Conference (ICDC10), 21-25 August 2017, Interlaken, Switzerland

    Monday, 20 June 2016

We would like to let you know that the 10th International Carbon Dioxide Conference (ICDC10) will be held on 21-25 August 2017 in Interlaken, Switzerland. The conference will be organized around themes and "Grand Challenges" that integrate across different reservoirs, ecosystems and disciplines. The overarching goal is to elucidate how human activities, including fossil fuel emissions and land use, influence the coupled carbon-climate system. IOCCP is one of the supporting organizations for this important meeting.

Abstract submission and registration will open in September 2016.

7th EGO Conference on Autonomous Ocean Gliders & their Applications, 26-29 September 2016, Southampton, UK

    Tuesday, 24 May 2016

The 7th EGO (Everyone's Gliding Observatory) conference will be held from 26th to 29th September, 2016, at the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) in Southampton, the United Kingdom. The use of gliders is now widespread but there remains a need for a forum in which scientists, engineers, students and industry can exchange knowledge and experiences on the development of glider technology and on the application of gliders in oceanographic research and in ocean observing systems.

The call for abstracts closes on 27th June 2016, 23:00 UTC.

Ocean ventilation and deoxygenation in a warming world - discussion meeting, 12-13 September 2016, The Royal Society, London, UK

    Friday, 20 May 2016

We would like to let you know that a scientific discussion meeting on "Ocean ventilation and deoxygenation in a warming world" will take place at the Royal Society of London, UK on 12-13 September 2016. This meeting will discuss the less obvious but important indirect impacts of climate change on the oceans. Increased stratification will affect ocean circulation and ventilation, and lead to reduced upwelling and deep water formation. This will reduce oxygenation through (still uncertain) interactions with biological production and remineralisation, with potential socio-economic consequences on fisheries and ecosystems.

The event is free but advance registration is essential (max capacity: 280).
